Coming home: The end

They have seen death and watched it bring together their unit, even as it created a distance between them and the Iraqis they were trying to help.

They have known separation and loneliness; some the heartbreak of coming home, and find-ing home had changed.

These soldiers — and their families — are vet-erans of a long and sometimes unpopular war. Some are leaving the Army for other opportuni-ties. Others will stay in likely to return to war zones yet again. Some will struggle with injuries seen and unseen.
