Briefs: USS Tortuga arrives in Australia

The USS Tortuga arrived Wednesday in Brisbane, Australia, where sailors, midshipmen and members of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit will pause for a four-day port visit, according to a U.S. 7th Fleet news release.

The Sasebo-based ship is in Australia to take part in Talisman Saber, a monthlong bilateral training exercise involving more than 20,000 members of the U.S. military and 12,000 Australian military personnel.

Morale, Welfare and Recreation has arranged activities for the sailors and Marines including crocodile tours, a four-wheel drive tour, scuba trips and surfing tours as well as community service projects, the press release stated.

The USS Essex and the USS Talisman will join the Tortuga for Talisman Saber, the Navy has reported.
