Fort Bragg officials identified the soldier who died in a hit-and-run accident Saturday morning on Bragg Boulevard.
Pfc. Richard B. Powell, 20, of Mobile, Ala., died after being hit by a car near Gruber Road and Bragg Boulevard about 1:40 a.m., said spokesman Ben Abel. Powell was a pedestrian.
Abel said Powell recently arrived on Fort Bragg and was assigned to the 101st Chemical Company, 82nd Sustainment Brigade.
Powell's awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
A woman was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint on Bragg Boulevard and has been questioned by Army criminal investigators, Able said. Fort Bragg officials are working with the U.S. Attorney's Office to determine how to proceed.
