A Fort Hood soldier died Sunday in Afghanistan in a noncombat-related incident, the Defense Department said Monday.

Chief Warrant Officer Deric M. Rasmussen, 33, died in Mazar E Sharif, the DOD said.

Rasmussen, 33, of Oceanside, California, was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade.

No other details were released.
