'Alleged attempted child abductions' being investigated at Ramstein
KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The Air Force is investigating reports of alleged attempted child abductions at Ramstein Air Base, officials said Thursday, but could provide no details due to the investigation.
“Yes, we are investigating reports of alleged attempted child abductions on Ramstein Air Base,” Linda J. Card, public affairs officer for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations said in an email. “Since this case is open and ongoing, I am unable to provide any more investigative details at this time.”
A bulletin posted on the Ramstein Air Base website referred to an unspecified “incident currently under investigation” causing concern.
“While the investigation is under way, specific details cannot be released. For your awareness, we have increased patrols, however, parents are truly our best and first line of defense. We encourage parents and caretakers to discuss protective measures with their children,” the bulletin says.
The bulletin says to report any information via Ramstein Security Forces at DSN 480-2050 or Commercial 06371-47-2050.
A Ramstein spokesman referred all questions about the alleged incident to the Air Force OSI.
In her email, Card indicated it could be a couple of weeks before more information could be available.
