CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — An Air Force officer stationed at Kadena Air Base died Sunday while on a commercial flight from Tokyo to Texas, according to an 18th Wing news release.

Capt. Tomas C. Hernandez, 44, of the 18th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, was found unresponsive during the flight and pronounced dead by medical authorities after the aircraft landed at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the Air Force reported.

The commander of his squadron released a statement saying Hernandez was a “wonderful, caring and compassionate professional.”

The cause of death is being investigated.
