EL PASO, Texas — A 23-year-old senior airman serving at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo., has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Denver.
Michael Snyder, of El Paso, was a member of the 460th Space Communications Squadron. He was a 2009 graduate of El Paso-Gridley High School.
The crash happened about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver Police Department spokesman.
He said Snyder was driving east and was struck in an intersection "by a van or an SUV. The driver of that vehicle then drove off, but fortunately was followed by some witnesses of the accident. They notified police and he was arrested before he returned home."
William Pettapiece, 32, remains in police custody without bond on charges of suspicion of vehicular homicide, hit and run and leaving the scene of an accident. He is due in court Friday morning.
The accident remains under investigation.
Funeral arrangements for Snyder are pending at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso.
