Air Force seeks outside advice on Dover penalties
Air Force Secretary Michael Donley is seeking advice from two retired generals and two experts on the appropriate punishments for those involved in the mishandling of remains at Dover Air Force Base early last month, The Air Force said in a statement to the Associated Press.
According to The Associated Press, The Air Force, which runs the mortuary, disciplined three supervisors but did not fire anyone. Following outrage over the matter from Congress and the public, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta asked Donley to assess whether stronger punishments were warranted.
Donley sent an interim report to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta last Thursday that summarized the discipline taken and its legal basis, AP reports. Donely is expected to submit his final disciplinary report to the Pentagon as soon as possible.
