Ugandan soldier guns down nine people in bar fight, say police
KAMPALA, Uganda -- A Ugandan soldier allegedly shot and killed nine people, including three fellow troops, following a bar brawl in the early hours of Saturday, near Kampala, police said.
The incident occurred in a small bar in a market in Bombo, 30 kilometers from the capital. The soldier indiscriminately shot at others in the establishment, mostly soldiers from a nearby army barracks.
"The killer shot down nine people during the wee hours of Saturday. He is believed to be a soldier and some of the victims were fellow soldiers," Judith Nabakooba, a spokeswoman, told dpa.
"We are carrying (out) the investigations to establish the motive, but his action may have been triggered by a disagreement," she added.
Deadly incidents involving drunken soldiers and policemen and are not uncommon in Uganda.
