Seven smart tips from Calif. CPAs for last-minute tax filing

There are always those who end up filing their taxes at the last minute. The California Society of CPAs (CalCPA.org) offers these tips for people who are scrambling to get their returns in by the April deadline.

Military personnel and the Earned Income Tax Credit

One credit that military personnel can take advantage of is the Earned Income Tax Credit or EITC, a refundable tax credit implemented to alleviate the stress of taxes of lower income individuals and families.

TurboTax offers free tax software for junior military, discounts for officers

Servicemen and women rank E-1 to E-5 can now file their taxes for free through the end of tax year 2012 (that means including extensions, so through October 15, 2013). Those who are E-6 to E-10 and officers can file for a reduced fee.
