Why does the school like military students?
Chaminade University has been offering classes to military personnel and their family members on military bases on Oahu since 1967. Military students and their family members are an integral part of the university and are a major part of our mission to provide academic opportunities to everyone interested.
What GI Bill/Tuition Assistance benefits are offered/available?
Chaminade University has a member of Servicemembers Opportunities Colleges since its start. Chaminade accepts all GI Bill and tuition assistance from all branches of the military. In addition, a 25% discount if offered to adult military family members concurrently enrolled in classes with the active duty service member. A 25% discount is also offered to spouses and adult children of any service member deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan or in countries supporting the deployments to those countries.
Do you offer online degrees/distance learning programs?
Yes, complete online degrees are offered in all associate degrees listed above as well as baccalaureate degrees in English, Historical and Political Studies, Psychology, Social Studies, Early Childhood Education and Secondary Education.
What programs/services are available specifically to military students?
Chaminade University maintains full time staffing on all major military bases on Oahu. Full support to include academic advising, book sales and assistance with financial aid, veterans benefits or any other problem can be taken care of at each office. In addition, online academic advising and support is offered online to students who are not located on Oahu.
What is your policy on involuntary activation for military service?
Options available vary with depending on when in the term the student is activated. If a student is activated early in the term they have the option to drop the class at no cost to them or to the government. If the class has progressed to a point where completing the course would be preferable, the student can work with the instructor online or via snail mail to complete the requirements for the course.
