An Army specialist who authorities say likely preyed on hundreds of children across the United States has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

The top U.S. Army commander in Europe said he expects troop levels to hold steady on the Continent, even as the Pentagon aims to shift more assets to the Asia-Pacific region.

Army Maj. Jonathan Batt was sentenced to 53 years in prison after a military jury convicted him of two rape charges and more than a dozen other sexual assault counts.

A military jury on Monday convicted Maj. Jonathan Batt of raping or assaulting eight of 15 women who had accused the Army Ranger of forcing himself upon them.

Just days after Memorial Day, a Space Force guardian escorted the remains of her great-great-uncle Staff Sgt. Loring E. Lord, a U.S. Army Air Forces gunner killed in action during World War II nearly 80 years after he was declared missing in action. 

A bill passed by Oregon’s state House lays out when the Pentagon can call Oregon’s troops into active duty and mostly prohibits their use for law enforcement. It comes as the legalities of the situation in California are being duked out in court. 

The Hohenfels training is the latest effort by the Army to incorporate more sophisticated drone warfare tactics into small unit formations.

An Army in-flight system that can detect when a pilot is incapacitated and get the aircraft back to base has passed a key test, giving the service a boost in its quest to develop autonomous technology.

The transportation museum in Newport News currently houses more than 7,000 artifacts spanning back to the Revolutionary War. It will combine with the Quartermaster Museum and Ordnance Training Support Facility at Fort Lee in Richmond, Va.

Another 2,000 members of the California National Guard were deployed to Los Angeles to maintain order following riots and protests over immigration enforcement actions across the city, according to U.S. Northern Command.
