American Legion to host claims fair

WASHINGTON — The American Legion will host a claims fair Feb. 21 to help eligible veterans navigate the Department of Veterans Affairs' benefits process.

The event, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be at the Washington Hilton Hotel and will feature accredited service officers. Veterans need to bring their DD Form 214, dependent information, service and private medical records, and direct-deposit banking information.

Last year, VA officials created a "express lane" for claims that are reviewed and finalized by a host of veterans advocacy groups, including the American Legion. Group officials said the outside help can help trim veterans' claims processing times by up to four months.

The claims event is the launch of the Legion's annual Washington conference. For more information, visit the Legion's web site.
