‘Twas the day before Christmas (at the Pentagon)

‘Twas the day before Christmas, when all through DOD
Not a creature was stirring, not even at OSD
The drones were hovering somewhere ‘Over There’
Looking for someone to put in the crosshair
Service members at Bagram were snug in the beds
While visions of accrued leave danced in their heads.

As I sat at my desk and was turning around
Down the E-Ring St. Nicholas came with a bound
He was dressed in ACU from his head to his foot
And his clothes were all tarnished with engine grease and soot
A bundle of MREs he had flung on his back
And he looked like a soldier carrying his rucksack

He gave a salute and went straight to his work
And filled all the stockings with money from CERP
And laying his radio aside of his nose
And giving a nod, from the courtyard he rose
He sprang to his Osprey, to his team gave a whistle
And away they all flew like the contrail of a missile
But I heard him exclaim as tilt-rotors moved out of sight
‘Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!’
