Fort Hood razes site of Hasan shooting massacre
Pictures from Fort Hood's Directorate of Public Works, released Feb. 18, 2014, show the razing of Building 42003, the site of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan’s shooting massacre in 2009.
Fort Hood said Tuesday that the base finished its demolition of Building 42003, the site of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan’s shooting massacre in 2009.
It was in the Soldier Readiness Processing Center where Hasan shouted in Arabic, “God is great,” before opening fire with a semi-automatic pistol. He killed 13 people and injured 31 Nov. 5, 2009.
A military jury sentenced Hasan to death for his crimes in August.
According to a brief release from Fort Hood, the base worked with families of those killed and injured in that shooting to make future plans for the space.
Officials intend to plant trees, install a small gazebo and a remembrance plaque at the location.
Hasan’s death sentence--execution by lethal injection--could still face years of appeals before it can be approved by the president and enforced.
