Yokota hoops 2-guard Manegan to suit up for Merchant Marines

Yokota Panthers senior shooting guard Warren Manegan is expected to take pen to paper Monday and sign a national letter of intent to play basketball for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
He calls the chance at playing NCAA basketball and getting a quality education "an opportunity of a lifetime."
"This fits both goals and is equivalent to a full-ride scholarship," Manegan said via Facebook message.
"There were so many ups and downs in my high school career, I am just relieved to finally make it to the next level. I'm incredibly happy to have achieved my goals, especially since it's tough to get noticed while living overseas. Now, I am totally focused on setting my college goals."
Then, there's also the give-back part, serving his country after four years at Kings Point, just outside of New York City on Long Island's north shore.
"I've learned a lot about serving my country because of being in Yokota, observing all the sacrifices made by the military and their families," Manegan said, adding that if he'd not moved to Yokota in 2009, "I probably never would have seriously considered attending a military academy."
