'Mass Effect 2' on PS3

Finally! PlayStation 3 gamers get their chance to save the galaxy from the Reaper onslaught.

Electronic Arts released the science-fiction role-playing game “Mass Effect 2” last January on the Xbox 360 and PC. The game was a big hit, which left PS3 fans feeling like they’d been left out in the cold of deep space.

In “Mass Effect,” you play as Commander Shepard, a human who gathers a collection of alien allies to head off an invasion by a machine race known as the Reapers. The game offers challenging missions, satisfying interactions with nonplayer characters and an intriguing storyline.

Now, that’s all available to PS3 fans, who also will get a few benefit that might make the wait worthwhile.

The PS3 version includes the special missions that Xbox fans had to pay to download. That means they can spend six additional hours learning more about the mysterious Shadow Broker and more without spending extra bucks.

The game also includes “Mass Effect Genesis,” an interactive comic from Dark Horse Comics and the game’s developer BioWare. The comic  provides a rundown of the events in the original “Mass Effect,” which was never released for the PS3. The comic lets you make choices that will affect the storyline in the second episode and “Mass Effect 3,” which is scheduled for release in December.
