K-town, Ramstein playing for a cause on Friday

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany – Friday, the cause is serious, but the game’s just for fun when the unbeaten Kaiserslautern Red Raiders’ softball team invades neighborhood rival Ramstein for a slow-pitch exhibition game designed to raise money for breast cancer research.
Dubbed “Paint the Park Pink,” the game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Friday on the fields at Ramstein High School, according to Ramstein coach Kathy Kleha. Admission is by donation, and proceeds from the sale of cold drinks and baked goods also will be donated to cancer research.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again at 2 p.m. May 18 at Pulaski Barracks in K-town for a doubleheader of an entirely different nature. Those games -- which also figure to be fun, for the spectators, at least -- will be played in deadly earnest, with the Western Region title, or at least a share of it, most likely on the line in a fast-pitch showdown between high school softball powers.
Might be a good idea to be there on both Fridays. This week you can benefit humanity and in two weeks you can try to cheer your favorite to victory.
