Filton gridder named school’s top athlete

Filton College head football coach Benjamin Herod emailed Friday that two-time all-conference tackle Elliott McMahon was selected the school’s male athlete of the year.
McMahon, who’s been playing football for just two years since transferring to the Bristol, England, based school, was Filton’s first football player to win the award, according to Herod.
It was the latest of firsts for McMahon, who, Herod said, attracted attention from U.S. college programs before accepting a scholarship to Stirling University in Scotland. In 2010, McMahon was one of the first two British players picked for the invitation-only Top Gun Camp run by The Football University.
The team from Filton College’s Bristol Academy of Sport has been playing Division I football against DODDS-Europe schools since 2010.
