Happy Mosel and other auto-free days

Cyclists, hikers and in-line skaters get their turn at ruling the roads on Sundays throughout the summer in Germany. This coming Sunday, June 3, is the Happy Mosel event, when the roads will be shut to all automobile traffic between Schweich and Cochem, along both sides of the Mosel River. A festive atmosphere is promised throughout the fifty-six towns along the route, with special events, from wine-tasting to puppet shows, laid on for visitors of all ages. If you tire blows out or your brakes fail, cyclist aid stations can help patch you up. Mosel tourism officials anticipate that some 120,000 people will turn up for this day. If you can't make it to the Mosel, you've still got several chances to participate in a similar event throughout the summer. Some of the closest and/or most interesting events are as follows:
