Garmisch, Germany, February 1, 1974: A winter stroll in the cold but beautiful Bavarian countryside. Garmisch-Partenkirchen, on the Austrian border, is familiar to thousands of U.S. servicemembers who have vacationed at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. It is a major winter sports venue, having hosted the 1936 Olympic Games and, more recently, championship ski-jumping events.
