Tokyo, August, 1965: Former Vice President Richard M. Nixon listens to a question during a meeting with reporters at the Hilton Hotel. Nixon, visiting the Far East on behalf of clients of his law firm, said "the communist target, as in Korea, is not primarily Vietnam, but all the Pacific — Japan specifically. Japan would have great difficulty surviving as an island of freedom in a Red takeover of Asian nations."
