Darmstadt, Germany, June 9, 1963: In the simpler times of a half century ago, Rev. Billy Graham might have shown up to preach at your chapel. Here the noted evangelist meets the congregation after Sunday services at the U.S. Army's Cambrai-Fritsch Casern in Darmstadt during his fourth visit to Germany. In Bonn, Graham praised Pope John XXIII, who had died that week, and expressed the hope that the Catholic cardinals would choose a successor who shared the late pontiff's goal of bringing the Christian churches closer together.
