WIESBADEN, May 15 (S&S) Comedian Bob Hope landed at Wiesbaden Air Base today for a 12-hour visit into which he packed two performances for GIs and airmen.
Hope, who broke into his brief European vacation to stage three shows for troops in England and Germany, arrived on a C47 `'Gooney Bird" from Paris. Brig Gen Fay R. Upthegrove, Wiesbaden Military Post CG, greeted Hope, who has spanned the Atlantic and Pacific to entertain American soldiers overseas.
"The trip was very nice once we saw the ground," Hope said, glancing at the overcast sky. "I've sea! soup before, but this is the first time I've ever seen currents in it.
"The last time I was here was in 1948 during the air lift," Hope recalled. "I guess it's safe come back by now."
Hope was accompanied by Marilyn Maxwell, lovely blond vocalist on his radio show.
Hope made a recording of his radio show during the afternoon before 1,200 persons. More than 2,400 were expected at the evening show in the Camp Lindsey gymnasium. Les Brown and his band played for the afternoon act and were on the evening schedule.
Hope is scheduled to fly back England tonight for a few more practice rounds before he enters British Amateur Golf Tournament May 21.

He will return to Germany Friday for two more performances in the Titania Palast in Berlin With Miss Maxwell and the band.
