Taiyo RobertsonBasketball Kadena Last week: Earned MVP honors by fueling the Panthers’ 6-0 title run through the 40th Hong Kong International School Holiday Basketball Tournament. Robertson averaged 23 points, scoring 24, including four three-point goals, in Saturday’s championship game as the Panthers led host Hong Kong International by 25 before winning 81-65. Kadena is 9-0 for the first time under coach Robert Bliss. “He’s taken his game to another level,” Bliss said of Robertson, a senior. “He has improved so much, especially on the defensive end. He steps so quickly to the basket. He not only scores but creates opportunities for others to score.”

Jamie CheniaultBasketballDaegu ![]() Last week: Played a key role in helping the Warriors win their 2009-10 Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference opener against Taejon Christian International at the Warriors’ home gym on Camp George. Cheniault, a senior, had 15 points and eight steals as the Warriors beat the Dragons 31-26. She coincidentally became the first player to earn Athlete of the Week honors in the first week of a season in consecutive school years.
Cheniault spent much of the offseason fine-tuning her game, playing against boys as well as girls. “She’s a good all-around kid,” coach Michelle Chandler said of Cheniault, in her fourth season on Daegu’s varsity. “Hopefully, she’ll step in to be a leader this season.” Selected by Stars and Stripes staff
