YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — A public demonstration will limit traffic lanes at base gates here Sunday, base officials said.
The Association for the Promotion of True Families will hold the demonstration from 11:40 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. in Verny Park, next to the Daiei Mall, base officials said.
Inbound vehicle and pedestrian traffic only will be allowed at the main gate, while all outbound traffic must go through Womble Gate.
As many as 300 people may attend the protest, Yokosuka police said.
The rally is not directed toward the base, police said.
Meanwhile, the Yokosuka Peace Fleet also will hold a small protest at 10 a.m. Sunday on a boat, and the affiliated Yokosuka Citizens Movement for Denuclearization Declaration will protest near the base at 4 p.m., the groups’ organizers said.
The second event takes place each month and is expected to include 30 to 40 people, organizers said.
Misawa group to host annual holiday gala
MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — The Misawa International Association is looking for base residents to join its annual Thanksgiving Gala on Saturday.
The party will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the association’s building, near the Misawa Ice Arena.

Yokota begins holidays with party, tree-lighting
YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — A tree-lighting ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Traditional Chapel here.
Immediately afterward, a holiday party will be held at the Yujo Community Center for all base personnel and guests.
The party will include door prizes for the adults, gifts for children, food and refreshments. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for photos.
