U.S. sailor held on Guam on assault, sex abuse charges

A USS Frank Cable sailor remained in police custody on Guam Friday following an indictment Wednesday on charges of criminal sexual conduct, assault and terrorizing.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Doyle Lamont Perry was indicted in connection to the alleged sexual assault and beating of a 47-year-old woman in May. Perry is scheduled to enter a plea on Wednesday, when he is to appear before Guam Superior Court.

He is being held in lieu of bail set at $100,000.

According to court documents, the victim was found around 5:30 a.m. on May 27 by two fishermen on the beach adjacent to the Guam governor’s office complex at Adelup. She was injured and unable to move. Police were summoned and the victim told them she had met a man in nearby Anigua. The man convinced her to go with him to a place where they could talk.

After arriving at Adelup complex and talking briefly the man allegedly beat and sexually assaulted her.

Court documents further state that one of the police officers had stopped a vehicle leaving the Adelup complex about 4:30 a.m. May 27. The vehicle and driver matched the description of the alleged assailant.

The driver was identified as Perry and the officer noted that he had sand on his face, neck and clothing when he was stopped.

The officer stated that Perry appeared intoxicated and it was recommended that he park his car and have a friend pick him up.

With the assistance of the Navy Criminal Investigative Service, Guam police located Perry and searched his car, according to the magistrate’s complaint. Police reportedly found evidence in the car and arrested Perry.

Perry was indicted on three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of second degree criminal conduct, three counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to commit criminal conduct, aggravated assault and terrorizing.
