TOKYO — Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt arrived at Tokyo International Airport Monday on the 10th anniversary of Japan's capitulation in World War II.
She expressed the "fervent hope that Japan and the U.S. will always be friends."
Mrs. Roosevelt will be here for five or six days before going to a conference Sept. 3-15 of the World Federation of the U.N. Assn. in Bangkok, Thailand, an unofficial group that cooperates with the U.N.
She stepped from a Pan American Clipper at 8:40 a.m. On hand to greet her were Mrs. John Allison, wife of the U. S. Ambassador to Japan, and other U.S. Embassy officials.
Accompanying Mrs. Roosevelt was Dr. David Gurewitsch who will also attend the Bangkok meeting.
