Joint forces arrest 61 suspected insurgents near Fallujah

U.S. and Iraqi forces raided multiple targets near Fallujah earlier this week, capturing at least 61 suspected insurgents, including what military officials called “al-Qaida in Iraq facilitators.”

The U.S. units involved were not named, but the areas around Fallujah generally fall under the purview of the Marine Corps. The suspected al-Qaida in Iraq members are believed to have helped with “logistical support of suicide bombers, foreign fighters and funding terrorist activities,” a U.S. military news release read.

The raids, conducted on a number of safe houses, also turned up several weapons caches, which were destroyed.
