VINH LOI, Vietnam — Tough Republic of Vietnam Army troopers making a sweep through the communist-infested Plain of Reeds ran into a bit of luck when they captured a talkative Viet Cong guerrilla.

During interrogation he told where other communists were hiding and the dangerous job of flushing out the Viet Cong from the tall grass began.

The troopers were from the 2d Bn., 11th Regt., 7th Inf. Div., and their U.S. Army advisers, 1st Lt. Herbert W. Blackwell and SFC Andrew Chapman, went along on the hunt.

The infantrymen fanned out and slipped through the tall grass, taking the hiding Reds by surprise. Stalking the communists is dangerous and a moment's carelessness could cost the trooper or adviser his life.

The action took place within eight miles of the Cambodian border.
