From the S&S archives: Show goes on in West Berlin, despite crisis

Disturbing political developments in recent weeks — not the least of which was the construction of the Berlin Wall — weren't enough to keep West Berlin's police from staging their annual show at the divided city's Olympic Stadium.

The September, 1961 event, highlighted by motorcycle stunts like the ones pictured below, drew an estimated 100,000 spectators.
