Air Force relaxing fees for extended
duty child-care program at Pacific bases

Fees for parents at Air Force bases in the Pacific who are using the extended duty child-care program in support of the military mission are suspended as of Sept. 20.

Normally, parents pay $2 per hour for this care, in which children stay with child-care providers in their on-base homes. The fee suspension will remain in effect through Oct. 20, Pacific Air Forces officials announced.

The change was implemented during the current emergency to better support families who may be faced with new working hours or the absence of a parent, a PACAF news release stated. Refunds are not applicable before this date.

The Extended Duty Care Program is a part of the Family Child Care program and is intended to support military members needing short-term additional care for their children.

Families should be enrolled in the EDC program through their local Family Child Care office. Enrollment is necessary to ensure the safety and health requirements of the children are met while they are in the homes.

The FCC home environment can help children adjust more easily to parents’ new working hours, officials said.

Parents and supervisors also are required to sign a statement validating that there is no one else available in the home who can provide care during the extended hours needed while they are working to support mission requirements.
