Teachers and students at Sasebo Naval Bases Ernest J. King
School learned about Hispanic countries and celebrated their culture through the
schools Hispanic Awareness Program last week.
October is Hispanic Heritage Month.
Students made maps, posters, flags and brochures for Hispanic
countries to display around the school. The schools Spanish students offered
informative presentations on several locales, including Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
About 300 people visited the schools gymnasium to see the
presentations and visit stations around the gym. One station included a variety of
Hispanic foods, another featured dancing and others highlighted cultural games and
storytelling.
Individuals and organizations throughout the base worked together on
the event, including the Parent Teacher Organization and the Morale, Welfare and
Recreation department. Parents, teachers, students and military volunteers prepared the
food.
