A day when three Far East high school rushing records were broken was also a day of celebration for Japan’s Yokota Panthers and South Korea’s Yongsan Falcons.

Yokota’s Darren Taylor and Corey Dunlap-Buckmon of Simon Sanchez on Guam each eclipsed the Far East single-season rushing record of 1,439 yards. Taylor had 1,493 yards and Dunlap-Buckmon 1,456.

Dunlap-Buckmon, a senior from Las Vegas whose father, James, is a technical sergeant assigned to Andersen AFB, had 384 yards and seven TDs on 28 carries as Simon Sanchez buried John F. Kennedy 66-0.

The Sharks (7-1) crept within a half-game of the Guam Interscholastic League-leading Father Duenas Memorial Friars (8-1).

Dunlap-Buckmon’s performance shattered 15-year-old records for rushing yards and touchdowns in one game. JFK’s Erwin Flauta set the previous Far East single-season record in 1998. The single-game records of six TDs and 331 yards were set Oct. 3, 1986, by Donald Wimes of Okinawa’s Kubasaki Shogun.

Taylor ran 23 times for 177 yards and scored twice as Yokota beat American School In Japan 27-14 Saturday.

Yokota (7-0 overall) clinched its third straight Kanto Plain Association of Secondary Schools title. Coupled with Robert D. Edgren’s 28-22 overtime triumph over Zama American, Yokota also kept its Japan Football League crown.

Yongsan (5-0) got 223 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries from Markel Porter, while Robert Boyles rolled up 221 yards of total offense and three TDs in a 70-12 rout Taegu.

Yongsan wrapped up the Korea Youth Activities League-Senior Division title as the Warriors (2-3) fell out of contention in the three-team league.

Yongsan 70, Taegu 12

CAMP WALKER, South Korea — Yongsan’s four-pronged attack of running backs Porter, Boyles and Don Hollis and quarterback Chris Glasser accounted for 650 yards and nine touchdowns. Josh Kim returned a fumble 7 yards for the Falcons’ other touchdown on a rainy, chilly day at Kelly Field.

"Today was kind of special," said Falcons coach LaRoy Slaughter. "In past weeks, the other teams showed they had the capability of winning. Today, we dominated more than we have all season."

Yongsan teams have captured all but one title since the league’s inception in 1978.

Hollis ran 10 times for 131 yards and scored twice. Boyles rushed for 119 yards and two TDs on 13 carries, and caught four passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Glasser went 11-for-14 for 177 yards, including a scoring pass to Herald Oertwig.

John O’Connor’s 65-yard touchdown run and Nick Howard’s 82-yard kickoff-return TD accounted for Taegu’s scoring.

"I really thought we could beat these guys," Warriors coach Jeff McNichol said. "We had a good week of practice. I’m numb right now."

John Perriton (34) of ASIJ is tackled by Yokota's Nick Broadney. Perriton led ASIJ with 76 yards on 15 carries.

TOKYO — Taylor topped the Far East single-season rushing record on a 52-yard touchdown run with 5:04 left in the third quarter, giving Yokota a 21-7 lead.

"Now, I’ll have to get some more, because I don’t want anybody to break it," Taylor said after the run. He gained 32 more yards to finish with 177.

Mike Chamberlain, the reigning JFL Player of the Year, picked off two ASIJ passes and had 211 all-purpose yards.

"I just felt good today," said Chamberlain. "Plus, this was for the [Kanto] championship, and I wanted to help us do it three straight times."

Chamberlain rushed 11 times for 125 yards, caught a pass for 19 yards and had three returns for 67 yards.

Yokota improved to 4-0 in the Kanto Plain, while ASIJ fell to 2-1 in league play.

The JFL title fell into Yokota’s lap when Edgren (3-2) beat Zama (3-3 JFL, 3-4 overall), ensure neither team will catch the Panthers (6-0 JFL).

"It’s hard-earned and well-deserved," Yokota coach Tim Pujol said. "These kids have worked hard."

Quarterback Josh Diekmann accounted for Yokota’s other two touchdowns, sneaking in from the 1 in the second quarter and adding a 7-yard TD pass to Jay Irwin in the fourth.

ASIJ junior fullback Shimon Jacobs scored runs of 11 and 3 yards. John Perriton led the Mustangs with 76 yards on 15 carries.

Nile C. Kinnick 26, Matthew C. Perry 0

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — Quarterback Ryan Licup racked up 253 total yards and rushed for three touchdowns, and Richie Korth ran 28 times for 216 yards and picked off three passes as Nile C. Kinnick (1-5) broke a 12-game losing streak.

Licup ran 13 times for 164 yards and went 8-for-15 for 89 yards. Brandon Green caught five passes for 68 yards, and Matt Quinn had 21 yards on three receptions and intercepted a pass.

Matthew C. Perry (0-4) gave up the fewest points it has this season.

Robert D. Edgren 28, Zama American 22 (OT)

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Dean Graziadei hit tight end Gerrid Warner with a 2-yard scoring pass to lift Edgren past Zama in overtime.

Edgren led 22-7 at halftime.

Graziadei went 8-for-11 for 87 yards and three TDs and also ran nine times for 43 yards and a score. Warner caught six passes for 60 yards and two scores, Jon Lesperance had 95 total yards and a touchdown, and Joel Chalmers kicked an 18-yard field goal.

Zama tied it with 8:51 left in regulation on a 78-yard TD pass from Ben Walters to Harrison Johnson. Omar Pinon returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and Justin Pierce scored on a 31-yard run.

George Washington 60, Guam High 0

MANGILAO, Guam — T.J. Garcia ran 10 times for 227 yards and six TDs. He returned a punt 26 yards for another as George Washington (5-3) routed Guam High (2-5). Guam High turned the ball over seven times.
