YONGSAN, GARRISON, South Korea Taking a date to the movie
theater just got a lot cheaper.
At 8th U.S. Army installations across the country, the movies are now
free to all military personnel, Department of Defense employees and their family members,
and Korean augmentees to the U.S. Army.
People really like the free movies, it saves them money,
said Chong Pyong-ok, Yongsan Garrisons movie theater supervisor.
Compared to last month, we have 80-100 more people per showing
with the free movies.
The free movies began Oct. 9.
This is an ongoing benefit for Morale, Welfare, and Recreation
customers, said Diana J. Fredlund, 8th Army marketing specialist.
MWR is very proud to provide yet another benefit for [its]
military community.
The free admission was the result of an agreement between 8th Army,
the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and 8th Army MWR officials.
MWR will reimburse AAFES for free tickets handed out, Fredlund said.
The type and quantity of movies will remain the same, with
first-run and standard release films that patrons have enjoyed in the past, she
said.
Guests will continue to pay the $3.50 admission fee for new releases;
$3 for second runs; and $2.50 for third runs.
Children pay half the adult price.
Moviegoers will have to show their identification cards in order to
gain free admission.
Admission fees will still be charged at theaters on Air Force
installations in South Korea, said Air Force 1st Lt. Ben Frankenfield, Kunsan Air Base
public affairs officer.
I think the Army bases are better than the Air Force bases
because Army [personnel] dont have to pay for the movies, said Army Spc. Brian
Venerick, mail clerk for the 8th Personnel Command.
