Würzburg's Roderick Haynes is dragged down from behind by Wiesbaden's Elliot Johnson.

WIESBADEN, Germany — Andrew Wempe threw for three touchdowns Saturday as the Würzburg Wolves stayed unbeaten with a 21-7 victory over Wiesbaden.

Wempe (10-for-12, 150 yards) threw TD passes of 45 and 60 yards to John Lash in the first quarter. He added a 25-yard TD toss to Korey Gunther.

Würzburg is 3-0 but faced with the possibility of having to forfeit its 37-0 victory over Heidelberg on Sept. 27 for using an eligible player.

Wiesbaden, which saw its 21-19 loss at Ramstein last week reversed by the Royals’ use of an ineligible player, scored on a 6-yard Kyle Jons run after halftime. Jons rushed 20 times for 145 yards, and Marquise Eubanks added 80 yards on five carries, but Wiesbaden was hard-pressed to find the end zone against the swarming defense of the defending Division I champions.

Nathan Mecham and Roderick Haynes each picked off Alex Carino passes, and the core of the Wolves’ defense — Darryl Diltz, Mike Woolford, Jeff Wasson and Kristian Hunter — each registered double-digit tackles.

Wiesbaden held Würzburg’s All-Europe backfield duo of Haynes and Gunther to under 100 yards each, but in doing so the Warriors exposed themselves to Wempe’s arm. Haynes carried 16 times for 97 yards, and Gunther rushed 17 times for 84 yards.

Würzburg will host Ramtein Saturday in a Division I showdown; Wiesbaden (1-1) plays at Heidelberg.

Ramstein 10. Lakenheath 7

RAMSTEIN AB, Germany — The Royals, too, stayed unbeaten on the field when Vinny Del Greco kicked a 27-yard field goal.

Del Greco’s boot capped a 10-0 run for Ramstein that came after Lakenheath took a 7-0 first-quarter lead on Matt Knox’s 9-yard TD run.

Knox carried 19 times for 150 yards.

Ramstein got even on a 4-yard scoring pass from Matt Welsh to Isaiah Fluellen, who ran the ball five times for 50 yards and caught three passes for 42 yards. Ramstein’s Tyrell Hibbler caught two passes for 63 yards.

Heidelberg 33, Kaiserslautern 7

HEIDELBERG, Germany — Tailback Chris Roberts ran 20 times for 174 yards and a TD as the Lions posted their first on-field victory of the season.

Roberts, who ran 14 yards for his TD, was one of five different Lions to find the scoring column on homecoming Saturday.

Cornerback Nick Philan, the homecoming king, registered a safety and ran a yard for a touchdown. Quarterback Brandon Chandler ran a yard for another score. Fullback Charles Simmons, who carried 16 times for 80 yards, added a two-point conversion run and an 18-yard TD run. Kicker Chris Snare split the uprights from 22 yards out.

All that scoring came before Kaiserslautern (0-3) got on the board for its first score of the season. It came with 33 seconds to play when Curtis Burrell found Lovell Davis with a 17-yard TD pass.

Maurice Bringham rushed 20 times for 85 yards against the Heidelberg defense led by linebacker Arthur Jackson, who was in on 18 tackles.

Division II

ISB 42, Vilseck 7

VILSECK, Germany — Darrel Davenport posted his second straight 200-yard outing Saturday as the International School of Brussels rolled over the Vilseck Falcons 42-7 in a non-conference game.

It was the fourth straight victory without a loss for the Raiders, but the first that didn’t come via the DODDS-Europe 40-point mercy rule.

Davenport had 21 carries for 221 yards, including touchdowns of 24 and 33 yards. He also ran for a pair of conversions.

Will Hendrickson threw three touchdown passes for ISB, connecting with Mike Barrett for 18- and 24-yard scores and finding Cam Bishop with a 1-yard scoring toss. Hendrickson finished the game 9-for-13 for 71 yards.

The Raiders’ defense surrendered its first points of the season when Antonio Harris hauled in a 38-yard pass from Anthony LeVasseur. But the Raiders got 14 tackles from Ian Beamon, 13 from Josh Henderickon and 11 from Sean O’Hara to contain the Falcons the rest of the way.

Vilseck fell to 1-2 overall but remained 1-0 in Division II-South going into road games at Hanau on Saturday and at Patch on Oct. 20. ISB (4-0, 1-0) plays at SHAPE on Saturday in a game that should decide the II-North race.

Bitburg 49, AFNORTH 12

BITBURG AB, Germany — Josh Blake ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third, and kicker/running back Shayne Czyzewski added two rushing touchdowns as the Barons won their first game of the season.

Czysewski scored on runs of 29 and 23 yards and kicked four extra points, while Blake found Tyler Romano with a 45-yard scoring pass after running for scores of 6 and 43 yards.

Braden Blake added Bitburg’s sixth TD on a 1-yard run, and freshman QB Andy Flores closed out Bitburg’s scoring with a 48-yard TD pass to Travis Carr.

Bitburg rushed 35 times for 245 yards and completed 11 of 17 passes for 195 yards.

Clarence Fedrick hauled in touchdown passes of 65 and 25 yards for AFNORTH, which fell to 0-4 overall (0-2 in II-North).

Mannheim 26, Patch 8

MANNHEIM, Germany — Adrian Laster returned a fumble 52 yards for a touchdown and ran 3 yards for another as the Bison claimed their first conference victory of the season.

Jonathan Dukes, who rushed 14 times for 71 yards and caught three passes for 33 yards, added a pair of touchdown receptions for Mannheim, 1-2 overall and 1-1 in II-South.

Sophomore Scott Kinnersley threw Dukes’ first touchdown, and freshman Justin Glazier the second.

John Nail scored Patch’s TD when he broke three tackles and sprinted 64 yards down the sideline in the first quarter.

Patch’s other points came just before halftime, when the Falcon pass rush sacked Kinnersley in the end zone.

Andrew Short returned a kick 90 yards to the Bison 9-yard line late in the game, but the Falcons were stopped on downs.

Mannheim middle linebacker Ryan Price blocked a punt and registered two sacks among his 12 tackles.

Mannheim hosts unbeaten Aviano on Saturday and closes out the regular season Oct. 20 at Hanau. Patch (0-4, 0-3) moves on to a non-conference date at Bitburg.

Aviano 35, Hanau 7

AVIANO AB, Italy — With Hanau drawn in to stop Aviano’s running game, Saints quarterback Mike Broderick passed for 252 yards and four touchdowns.

Broderick had TD strikes of 40 yards to Dur Till, 40 and 47 yards to LeDarrin Smith and 23 yards to Kevin Aycox as the unbeaten Saints (4-0 overall, 3-0 in II-South) took control of the league race. Aviano travels to Mannheim Saturday for the final game of the regular season.

Mike Scott, who totaled 81 yards in kick returns, added the final TD of the afternoon for Aviano on a 7-yard run.

Hanau’s TD came on a Pat Crockett run of 4 yards just after halftime. Hanau rushed 53 times for 156 yards, with Crockett carrying 23 times for 102 yards. The Panthers completed just four of 17 passes for 44 yards.

Matt Refsnider and Aurelio Irizarry led the Aviano defense. Refsnider had 14 stops and Irizarry 13, along with a fumble recovery. Cameron Hopf added 11 tackles for the Saints.

Tyrone Johnson, who carried 11 times for 34 yards, picked off a Broderick pass, as did teammate Dwayne Davis. Hanau fell to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in II-South.

Division III

Sigonella 28, Vicenza 18

VICENZA, Italy — Sigonella, which hadn’t won a game on the field since reviving its football program in 1996, defeated the Vicenza Cougars 28-18 in Division-III-Italy.

Quarterback Davonte Johnson completed 13 of 19 passes for 304 yards and four TDs for Sigonella, which tied the game at seven at halftime on a 75-yard Johnson TD.

The Jags were up 20-6 going into the final stanza before the Cougars pulled close.

Davonn Grosvenor, who had scored Vicenza’s first TD on a 10-yard first-quarter run and who had 189 yards rushing, scored twice to make it 20-18. Johnson countered that with four minutes left, however, with his fourth scoring strike.

Terrance Young caught two of them and Rodrick Perkins the other two for Sigonella, whose only other football victory since 1996 came in 1999, when the Naples Wildcats forfeited their game at Sigonella for disciplinary and safety reasons.

Sigonella, 1-2 overall and in the conference, hosts Baumholder Saturday in a non-conference game. Vicenza (1-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference) travels to Naples.

Alconbury 6, Brussels 0

RAF ALCONBURY, England — Billy Johnson’s 44-yard TD pass to Andrew Concilio was the decider as the visiting Brigands chose to forfeit just before halftime.

Brussels coach Joe Fielder cited injuries to four starters as the reason for abandoning the game, according to Alconbury coach Eric Mead.

It was the first game of the year for the Dragons.

Concilio hauled in four passes for 69 yards. The Dragons are next scheduled to travel to Rota, where the Admirals have been waiting all season to play their first game. Brussels (0-2 overall) has the week off before hosting Menwith Hill on Oct. 20.

London Central 22, Bamberg 7

BAMBERG, Germany — Mike Phillips ran for TDs of 25 and 46 yards, and Mark McKeithen added a 9-yard TD run as the visiting Bobcats improved to 3-0 overall in a non-conference game Saturday.

Nate Cline added a fourth-quarter safety for London Central, which who roared back from an early Bamberg lead built on a 30-yard TD pass from Eric Maldonado to Carl Davis.

Jonathan Castillo registered 14 tackles and Jose Urbaez 13 for Bamberg, which fell to 0-3 overall.

Robert Hrylewiencki had 10 tackles and Cole Schaefer seven stops and an interception of London Central, which is scheduled to host Menwith Hill on Saturday in what would be the opening game of the season for Menwith Hill.

Hohenfels 36, Giessen 0

GIESSEN, Germany — Vedrick Steet carried the ball 15 times for 150 yards as the defending European Division III champs remained unbeaten.

Street scored on runs of 3 and 7 yards as Hohenfels, 3-0, took a 27-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

M.D. Smith, James Panui, Robin Hair and Michael Wood also ran for TDs in the romp.

Ansbach 24, Baumholder 21

ANSBACH, Germany — Zach Georgia, Brandon McAdams and Brandon Hollingsworth led the play as Ansbach stopped Baumholder on its own 35-yard line with 1:21 to play to preserve the victory.

Baumholder had opened the scoring on a 2-yard Anson Garrison run set up when the Cougars muffed the first Baumholder punt of the game, but Ansbach (2-1 overall and in the conference) responded with 16 unanswered points.

Quarterback Shawn Bachtel found Drew Thompson with a 12-yard scoring pass to start the string, and Miles Sheppard added a 9-yard TD run to keep things rolling. A pair of Bachtel to Thompson two-point conversion passes made it 16-6 at halftime.

Garrison, who rushed for 155 yards on the afternoon, bought Baumholder back with a diving catch in the end zone of a 21-yard toss from Matt Calabria, who added a two-point completion to Mario Coronado that made it 16-14.

Thomas Gere, running behind center Nick Owen and guard Matt Zimmermann, answered with a 27-yard TD before a 90-yard drive, capped by Coronado’s 8-yard TD run set up the final heroics for the Ansbach defense.

It was the first loss of the season for Baumholder (2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference). The Bucs are scheduled for a trip to Sigonella this Saturday before hosting Hohenfels in a conference showdown the night of Oct. 19.
