BITBURG, GERMANY Bitburg High School teacher Robert Todd, who worked for the
U.S. military school system for 21 years, died Wednesday after a lengthy battle with
cancer. He was 63.
Todd taught English at Bitburg for six years and had taught school for more than a
decade before joining Department of Defense Dependents Schools in 1980, a DODDs statement
said.
In a tribute to his colleague, fellow Bitburg teacher Ross Calvert said students held
"Mr. Todd" in "profound high regard."
One of those students was Calverts daughter, Megan, who had pasted Todds
picture on her college dorm wall, along with photos of her family and friends.
"She [said] that Mr. Todd had been the teacher who had made the greatest impact on
her life," and was her favorite teacher at Bitburg High School, Calverts
tribute said.
"Your life, the life of a teacher, can be measured by the myriad such impacts that
you have made upon a clientele that you have labored with
and loved," the
tribute said.
Todd is survived by his wife, Heike, and two sons, Geoffrey and Felix.
Information on a memorial service at the high school will be announced at a later date.
Cards only may be sent to Berlinerstrasse 13, 54634, Bitburg, Germany, or
to Bitburg High School at 52 SPTG/CCSH Unit 3820, Box 50, APO AE 09126.
