Troops risk their lives every day for their country, even in times of peace.
According to theater headquarters for each service, the following troops died in the
line of duty in Europe in recent months.
Army Spc. Larry Mossalli, Vicenza, Italy, April 24. A truck he was
riding in crashed on its way to a parachute drop zone.
Army Spc. Alan Keit, Kaiserslautern, Germany, April 24. A German
vehicle hit his mail delivery truck on Autobahn 60 near Rüsselsheim.
Army Spc. Branden J. Leusby, Schweinfurt, Germany, April 12. A
forklift he was driving apparently overturned and fell on him.
Marine Cpl. Andrew Franco Jr., USS Portland, April 1. Suffered a head
injury after a fall aboard ship.
Air Force Lt. Col. Kenneth Hyvonen Jr. and Capt. Kirk Jones,
RAF Lakenheath, England, March 26. Their F-15C fighters crashed into Scotlands
Cairngorm Mountains.
Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Lance Hill and Chief Warrant
Officer 4 George Graves, Wiesbaden, Germany, March 26. Their reconnaissance
aircraft plummeted into a forest east of Nuremberg.
Army Staff Sgt. Keith Lawson, Mannheim, Germany, Jan. 11. He was
struck by a vehicle while helping a mail driver back up a truck.
Army Sgt. 1st Class Linda Streeks, Marshall Center, Germany, Feb. 26.
Died during physical training.
Army Sgt. 1st Class James Golleher, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dec. 30,
2000. Died of undisclosed causes while serving with a special forces group.
Army Staff Sgt. John Gallagher, Camp McGovern, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Nov. 26, 2000. Apparently died of natural causes while deployed.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Chad M. Burkhart, Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo,
Nov. 24, 2000. Fell from a Black Hawk helicopter during operations.
