USAFE gives safety, weather, systems
maintenance and public affairs awards

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — U.S. Air Forces in Europe recently announced European winners in several categories: safety performance and achievement; weather; maintenance management systems professional; and outstanding public affairs officer. Those winners are:

Safety performance and achievement:

Staff Sgt. Steven W. Holland, 86th Logistics Support Squadron, Ramstein Air Base, Germany, exhibited meticulous attention to detail in discovering a foreign object in a C-130 engine horse collar area and taking the initiative to investigate and remove the object;

Airman 1st Class Jerry Parsons, 86th Maintenance Squadron, Ramstein, received a USAFE Professional Performer award by demonstrating keen attention to detail, during a C-130 engine inspection, by detecting a fractured engine starter connection flange;

Senior Airman Anthony L. Welch, 86th Maintenance Squadron, Ramstein, received a USAFE Professional Performer award when, during a C-130 wing inspection, he discovered a fractured engine truss mount that was separated from the engine mount.

Weather:

Master Sgt. David W. Lappie, 52nd Operations Support Squadron/Operations Support Wing, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, won the Chief Master Sgt. William Gardner Award for Outstanding Air Force Weather Senior NCO;

Capt. Lee A. Byerle, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein, won the Outstanding Staff Support-Best Award, Officer Category;

The 31st Operations Support Squadron Weather Flight, Aviano Air Base, Italy, won the Outstanding Weather Flight-Williams Award.

Maintenance management systems professionals:

Master Sgt. Julie C. Foglesong, 22nd Fighter Squadron, Spangdahlem, won in the senior NCO category;

Tech. Sgt. David W. McLane, 48th Operational Support Squadron, RAF Lakenheath, England, won in the NCO category;

Airman 1st Class Angel D. Chavis, 22nd Fighter Squadron, Spangdahlem, won in the airman category.

Public affairs:

Capt. John S. Haynes, 39th Wing, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, was named the top performer in the general public affairs career fields — band, broadcasting and public affairs.
