Yokota airman found guilty
of possessing child pornography

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Airman Basic Robert J. Polfliet Jr., a member of the 374th Communications Squadron here, was found guilty of numerous charges during a general court-martial last week.

The charges included possession of child pornography on a home computer and unlawfully entering a Fussa city business to commit a theft.

Polfliet, from Orangeburg, S.C., was ordered to 18 months confinement and given a bad-conduct discharge.

A military judge found Polfliet guilty of four of seven counts against him, although he pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

Besides possession of child pornography and unlawful entry, Polfliet was found guilty of bringing the hallucinogenic drug mushrooms on base between April 1 and June 5, 2000, and stealing mushrooms on or about May 21, 2000.

Polfliet was found not guilty of breaking into a residence on or near base, receiving child pornography between Aug. 24, 1999, and June 16, 2000, and making a false official statement.

He will serve his sentence at a military jail in the United States.

Prosecuting the case were Air Force Maj. Chris Mathews and Air Force Capt. Richard Pakola. Air Force Capts. John Flood and Matthew Mulbarger were attorneys for the defense.
