Yokota airman found guilty
of possessing child pornography

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan Airman Basic Robert J. Polfliet Jr., a
member of the 374th Communications Squadron here, was found guilty of numerous charges
during a general court-martial last week.
The charges included possession of child pornography on a home
computer and unlawfully entering a Fussa city business to commit a theft.
Polfliet, from Orangeburg, S.C., was ordered to 18 months confinement
and given a bad-conduct discharge.
A military judge found Polfliet guilty of four of seven counts
against him, although he pleaded not guilty to all allegations.
Besides possession of child pornography and unlawful entry, Polfliet
was found guilty of bringing the hallucinogenic drug mushrooms on base between April 1 and
June 5, 2000, and stealing mushrooms on or about May 21, 2000.
Polfliet was found not guilty of breaking into a residence on or near
base, receiving child pornography between Aug. 24, 1999, and June 16, 2000, and making a
false official statement.
He will serve his sentence at a military jail in the United States.
Prosecuting the case were Air Force Maj. Chris Mathews and Air Force
Capt. Richard Pakola. Air Force Capts. John Flood and Matthew Mulbarger were attorneys for
the defense.
