Two Army colonels nominated for brigadier general appointments

WASHINGTON Two Army colonels in Europe were nominated for appointment to
brigadier general recently.
Col. Mark T. Kimmitt currently is serving as the senior military assistant to the
supreme allied commander, Europe, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe.
Col. John C. Woods currently is serving as the chief of staff, 1st Infantry Division,
U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.
Kimmitt, a 1976 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, also has
masters degrees from Harvard University, the School of Advanced Military Studies and
the National Defense University. Additionally, Kimmitt has completed Ranger, Airborne,
Jumpmaster, Naval Gunfire, Joint Firepower Control, Air Assault, Pathfinder and Jungle
schools.
Awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service
Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Staff Commendation Medal, the Army
Commendation Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the NATO Medal, the National
Defense Service Medal, the Senior Parachutist Badge and the German Leistungabzeichen in
Gold.
Woods, a 1975 graduate of LaSalle University, has a master's degree in business
administration from LaSalle. He also graduated from the Canadian Forces Command and Staff
College in Toronto, Canada. He has served as assistant professor of military science at
LaSalle.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit,
Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation
Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), National
Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and Kuwait Liberation Medal.
