Four types of Huffy childrens bicycles sold by the Army and Air Force Exchange
Service are being recalled because of faulty frames, AAFES announced.
The defective bicycles sold by AAFES have 12-inch frames with model numbers: 22081
(boys "Space Racer"); 22140 (boys "Cool Taz"); 22091 (girls
"Fairy Magic"), and 22150 (girls "Sweet Tweety").
Huffy Bicycle Co. of Springboro, Ohio, is recalling 38,800 sidewalk bikes. The frames
of these bikes can break apart, causing falls and injuries to riders, the company said.
Huffy has received two reports of the bicycle frames breaking, resulting in cuts and
bruises to riders. The recall is limited to bicycles with date codes of April 2000 and
earlier.
Consumers should immediately stop using the bicycles, and call Huffy's Product Action
Line at (888)366-3828, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, or visit the
companys Web site: www.huffybikes.com
for more information.
Consumers with a recalled bicycle will receive a comparable replacement. To determine
if a bicycle is affected by the recall, follow these steps:
Inspect the left rear "drop out" for the manufacturer date code. You may need
to remove the training wheel. An arrow in the top circle will indicate the last two digits
of the year manufactured. An arrow in the bottom circle will show the month manufactured,
1 through 12.
If the date code indicates that the bike was manufactured in April 2000 (04, 00) or
earlier, contact Huffy with the following information:
- Date code of bike;
- Model number of bike (near the bottom of the crank housing);
- Serial number of bike (on the bottom of the crank housing);
- Customers name and complete mailing address.
The customer may contact Huffy with the information by one of the following: phone
(888) 366-3828; fax (513)704-5980; or, write to Attn: Huffy Customer Service, Product
Action Line, 901 Pleasant Valley Drive, Springboro, OH, 45066.
