Drum major Carolyn Vande-lots leads Kinnick High School's advanced band Wednesday at Tokyo Disneyland. It is the sixth straight year the Yokosuka band has performing there.

TOKYO — Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck danced Tuesday to the tunes of the Nile C. Kinnick High School band.

The band, from Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan, got a rare opportunity to perform on Main Street USA in Tokyo Disneyland. It was the only Department of Defense Dependent Schools band in the Pacific to receive an invitation to perform at the amusement park.

"It’s awesome," said 11th-grader Andrew Hesse, who plays the flute. "It’s a great honor to play here today. ... It’s the most fun place."

It was the sixth straight year the Kinnick band has performed at the park. The band played March of the Toys, from the Disney movie Babes in Toyland as it marched to the performance area. As part of the performance, band members played songs from the Star Wars movies.

"It’s a lot of hard work," said music director Pat Jorgenson. "But then, it’s a lot of fun ... it’s the most fun performance."
