Kadena group honors servicemembers
for cultivating Korean-American relations

SEOUL Four U.S. servicemembers were honored Friday for their
volunteer work in bringing Americans and South Koreans together.
The servicemembers were presented with the Friendship Award from the
Korea American Friendship Society at a banquet. The group sponsors several political,
social and cultural programs to foster Korean-American relations.
The awardees are:
Petty Officer 2nd Class James Glerup, a supervisory
supply specialist with U.S. Naval Forces Korea. Glerup served as a volunteer for more than
845 hours with groups including the Boy Scouts of America, a local orphanage and the USO.
He is active with the Parent Teacher Organization at Seoul American Middle School and
Seoul American Elementary School.
Senior Airman Lanie McNeal, a photographer with the
8th Communications Squadron, 8th Fighter Wing at Kunsan Air Base. McNeal volunteered for
more than 160 hours at a local orphanage. She organized events at the facility and
recruited other volunteers. Shes also participated in community clean-up efforts and
is a Habitat for Humanity volunteer.
Capt. Kurt Connell, assistant inspector general for
8th U.S. Army at Yongsan Garrison. Connell serves as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity,
and organizes hikes to historic and cultural sites around South Korea.
Capt. Brad Endres, commander of the 82d Combat
Support Equipment Company, Engineer Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Edwards. Endres
helped establish a friendship council with local residents outside Camp Edwards, a small
camp north of Seoul. Endres and his unit organized several area projects, including
helping farmers with their harvest, teaching English, and clearing snow and ice from a
park.
