Faith
Academys 43-game winning streak spanning six years of Far East High School Girls
Basketball Tournament play ended Tuesday.
Arianne
Bordeaux scored 19 points and Katreem Palmer chipped in 11 as Nile C. Kinnick defeated the
Vanguards 41-36 on the second day of round-robin play in the Far East Girls Class AA
(large schools) Tournament at the Camp Foster Field House on Okinawa.
The
Vanguards have won five straight Far East tournaments: the past four Class AA tournaments
and the 1996 Class A (small schools) Tournament. Faith Academys last tournament loss
occurred during the 1995 Class A semifinals.
Jenna Cutts
led the Vanguards with 14 points, while Bethy Davis scored 10.
In another
upset, Jocelyn Pardilla scored 16 points to lead Guams John F. Kennedy Islanders to
a 37-29 overtime victory over Seoul American.
Kadena beat
Seoul American to finish atop Pool B in round-robin play. Robert D. Edgren captured Pool
A, while host Kubasaki won Pool C and Kinnick prevailed in Pool D.
On Guam,
seven schools remained unbeaten in the Boys Class AA (large schools) Tournament, including
defending champion Faith Academy.
The
Vanguards defeated Nile C. Kinnick 57-51, and Edgren, 47-32, to move to 3-0 in the
tournament. They share the Pool A lead with Father Duenas Memorial after the Friars beat
Kinnick 67-55.
In Pool B,
Kadena recorded its third straight victory, topping JFK 74-61. American School in Japan
(2-1) was in second place.
Seoul
American continued its march through Pool C, moving to 3-0 with a 62-57 victory over Zama
American. Simon Sanchez (2-0) was a half-game back after beating Zama 55-47.
Yokota and
Kubasaki, both 3-0, led Pool D. Yokota battered host Guam High 63-41. Kubasaki handed
Saipan High a 69-41 loss and hammered the Guam High Panthers 51-23.
Osan
American took sole possession of first place in the round-robin standings in the Girls
Class A Tournament in Pusan, South Korea. The Cougars moved to 4-0 after two victories
Tuesday.
The biggest
shot of the day was hit by Ronica Nash, a free throw with no time left to give Matthew C.
Perry of Japan a 41-40 overtime triumph over Tokyos Seisen International.
The Samurai
were 3-1 after two days of play. They are tied with Taegu American, which defeated Perry
51-36 on Tuesday.
In small
schools boys play, defending champ E.J. King snagged the top seed by winning Pool 1.
Guams
St. Paul Christian completed a surprising run through Pool 2, winning all five of its
games to take the No. 2 seed.

ASIJ. Jackie Mante scored 12 points, while Vicente had 11 for JFK.

42, Morrison 37: Nikki McGraw poured in 21 points to power Kubasaki past their
Taiwan foes. Tracy MacDonald led Morrison with 11.

59, Zama 53: The guards took over for Kubasaki as Shakyra Walker scored 23 points

winless Southern.

38, Southern 26: Yokota got its first victory as Tomiko Johnson led the way with
10 points. Alyxia Camacho and Rebecca Santos netted seven points each for Southern.

28-16 in the second half. James Lee had 20 points and Tommy Penland and Jun Sung Choi had

points in the final quarter. Adkins had 22 points and Teresa Noble added 15 points.

from Christina Mercer. Desiree Blaney had 10 rebounds in the victory. Ann Kim topped Seoul
