JENS customers in Japan will get
automatic reminders of overdue bills

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Since April, JENS Corp. customers in Japan have found a new addition to their e-mail service — online billing.

The service allows customers to sign in online and view up-to-date account statements, instantly change their customer information, or suspend their service while on deployment.

Now, starting Sept. 2, they’ll see something new — an automatic reminder and notification of overdue payments.

“It’s what we call an ‘intelligent bill,’ something pretty rare in Japan,” said Bob Bailey, general manager of JENS in Japan.

“Typically, bills in Japan are for current payment due only, they don’t tell you if you owe a balance. If you miss a payment, the way they inform you is to send a separate bill on the missed payment.”

By December, all JENS customers through the various military exchange services will be weaned from “paper billing,” Bailey said.

The day after the bill’s due date, an electronic reminder will be sent informing the customer the payment hasn’t been received.

A suspension notice will be sent nine days later and the account will be suspended two days after that.

Any account suspended for more than 60 days will automatically be closed, Bailey said.
