sustained in car crash

FINEGAYAN, Guam — A Guam airman died Wednesday after being taken off life support following a car crash.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Charles Bagwell Jr. died at the Naval Hospital on Guam, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The 29-year-old single parent and his 3-year-old son suffered serious internal injuries in a car accident April 14.

The boy, who was not identified, was flown to Hawaii on Tuesday. His condition was not available.

Bagwell’s parents, who arrived on Guam last week, made the decision to take their son off life support, hospital spokeswoman Ensign Rebecca Pryke said Saturday.

Bagwell was a member of the 36th Logistics Support Squadron at Andersen Air Force Base.

Initial police reports said Bagwell’s Toyota Tercel and a Ford Mustang, driving in the same direction on Marine Drive, collided. Bagwell’s car then veered into the next lane, where it struck an oncoming vehicle.

Police said the drivers of the Mustang and the other vehicle were not seriously injured and that an investigation is under way.
